The most important principle of the Tribunal is to render independent and fair judgements. This principle of independence includes the Tribunal’s freedom from institutional intrusions and directives, political interference in any form, and asymmetric pressures, which encompasses discussing, evaluating, and resolving every issue with full conscientious and intellectual independence during decision-making processes.
One of the most important elements ensuring independence is to have the Tribunal consist of prominent individuals who are themselves fully independent and self-empowered by the ethics of civic engagement.
To ensure financial independence, the Tribunal’s work is financed by individual anonymous and voluntary donations and by the support of respected international organizations with diplomatic status.
